Description
The Ares (son of Zeus) is a super strong line through mini diamond shaped float designed to take everything that fishing for large bags of big carp shallow using lines to 0.25 diameter and very strong elastics can throw at it. Its tiny body makes full use of the classic diamond shape with no corner rounding needed to prevent line damage making it perfect for heavy duty shallow and “rat hole” fishing.
The high pressure rated Tech4 foam used for the floats body offers amazing buoyancy for such a tough material. The bore of each body is lined with a specially manufactured lightweight yet strong plastic tube to prevent line damage whilst retaining the maximum possible buoyancy for its size. The flexible 0.9 diameter glass stem runs right through to the top end of the 2mm diameter Hi Viz tip which makes the Ares almost unbreakable in even the most extreme fishing situations.
The base end of the hollow tip is cut on an angle to prevent the line being damaged where it exits the body and the body being pushed away from the tip when the line is under the tension created by a hooked fish. Available in two sizes 0.1g and 0.2g with a choice of red or yellow tips.
Setting up your Ares.
First thread the body onto the rig line so that the HB logo is at the base of the float. Then insert the stem from the top and fit the supplied piece of rubber to the stem. Next slide up the rubber to hold the body in place under the tip. DO NOT THREAD THE RIG LINE THROUGH THIS RUBBER or it will grip the line and try to bend the float stem when the line returns to normal having been stretched by a hooked fish.
Then add two more pieces of float rubber to the line and fit them to the bottom portion of the stem. Check that the line exits the top of the float body via the cut out area on the floats tip as this will avoid line damage and stop the body being pushed away from the tip when the line is under tension.
HB Top Tip.
Best used with a simple spread shotting pattern with plenty of tip showing when fishing big baits. This allows easier distinction between proper bites and line bites. Can of course also be fished “dotted down” when required.

The HB Redneck is my first choice of paste float for general paste fishing. Similar to its cousin the HB Shindig but much stronger it is built on a long 1mm diameter flexible glass stem which passes right through the very strong Tech3 foam oval shaped body and supports the first 20mm of the 1.7 mm diameter x 50mm long hollow Hi Viz tip. The float is fitted with a choice of two types of stainless steel spring eye securely glued to the base of the antennae making the HB Redneck a very strong animal indeed and can also be supplied without an eye for those that prefer to use an extra float rubber instead. Having a tip length of around 50mm makes this model very suitable for the paste fishing it was designed for but it also works very well for larger baits such as corn or meat when there is a need to bury the line beneath the surface. It is best fished with a spread bulk for paste or a spread bulk and droppers for corn etc. HB Top Tip People often shy away from fishing paste if there is a strong undertow in their swim. However if you position just enough shot a couple of inches from the hook to hold the unbaited rig still and then adjust the remaining shot so that when the undertow takes full effect there is half the tip showing you will stop the water movement pulling the hook out of the paste. Bites will be big lifts of the float or savage dips sometimes pulling the elastic out of the pole before you can strike.
